If lazing all day in the sunshine is not your idea of fun, there are numerous rewarding activities to indulge in while in Sanur. It is deservedly popular with families as many beach resorts have dedicated kids’ clubs and it is Bali’s premier water sports centre. You can immerse yourself in local cultural life, enjoy a wealth of sporting pursuits or explore the colourful underwater world with a rewarding scuba diving course or snorkeling trip.
Water sports in Sanur
Sanur beach has an excellent variety of thrilling water sports activities which include jetskiing, sea kayaking, windsurfing and parasailing plus there are jet skis and banana boasts as well.
Several professional operators offer private and group tuition including dedicated instruction for children. Most major beach hotels have some water sports equipment for rent and the best of the bunch is the Blue Oasis Beach Club (Sanur Beach Hotel, Jalan Danau Tamblingan, Tel: +62 (0)361 288011, blueoasisbc@yahoo.com) or try the more central Inna Grand Bali Beach (Jin. Prices are pretty good value for Bali standards and you can expect to pay rp200,000 for one hour of windsurfing and rp150,000 for a spectacular 15-minute parasailing session.
Golf in Sanur

Sanur boasts a top class golf course
Right in the heart of the resort hugging the golden sands of Sindhu beach is an inviting nine-hole golf course. Located in the grounds of the sprawling Grand Bali Beach Hotel, this compact course offers some challenging holes and beautifully manicured fairways and greens. It is pleasantly uncrowded most of the time and features a well stocked pro shop with club hire and professional tuition for all levels. Scuba diving in Sanur
Sanur is South Bali’s main centre for scuba diving and is the best place to learn the basics on the island. The main dive sites lie just offshore and although these reefs are less spectacular than the more challenging dive sites in east Bali, the area is teeming with exotic marine life and visibility is generally good.
There are almost a dozen Sanur-based dive operators offering single fun dives and cerificated PADI open water courses for beginners. Prices are similar whoever you choose to dive with. A single dive is around rp400,000 including all equipment and about rp3,500,000 for a three to four day Open Water course. It is even possible to have an underwater wedding on the reef!

Fishing trips in Sanur
For a more peaceful day on the ocean waves, charter a local boat for a rewarding fishing trip. This area of ocean is a fertile fishing ground with huge stocks of tuna, barracuda and marlin. Many hotels can organise skippers and boats although better value will be found dealing direct with the local boat operator Koperasi Jeladi Nelayan (Jalan Hang Tua, Sindhu Beach Tel: +62 (0)361 284206). Boats can usually accommodate four to six people and come complete with all equipment including GPS and fish finders. Expect to pay around rp500,000 for a day’s hire after a little bargaining.
